Senior Pet Care
Senior dogs (typically around 7 years old) and senior cats (anywhere between 7 and 10 years old) require special monitoring of their organ systems. This is why we HIGHLY ENCOURAGE annual senior screenings that include a Complete blood count (CBC), Chemistry (looks at values indicative of liver, kidney, adrenals, GI organs, pancreas etc), electrolytes and a urinalysis. Depending on what underlying disease processes we find, we may recommend bi-annual bloodwork or mini-screenings every 8-12 weeks. We also recommend addressing dental problems early on so that we do not have circulating infection from dental disease that can impact the heart and kidney. We will discuss options for dental care during the examination.
